Apostil
An Apostil is a special seal affixed by authorities to certify that an official document is a copy conforming to the original. Apostils are used in the countries that signed the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, best known as The Hague Convention.
The apostils are used when a copy of an official document of another country is needed, for example, in situations involving marriages, adoptions, successions or even international contracts. An Apostil is official proof that a copy conforms to the original. It does not mean that the content of the original document is correct, however.
