Over 5,500 athletes and Olympic team members from 80 countries will come to Sochi in February 2014. Language support for them will be provided by translation and interpretation specialists, as well as many volunteers. It is believed that participants and guests of the Sochi Olympics will require over one thousand translators.

According to Maureen Sweeney, Linguistic Services Consultant to the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, all volunteers and translators, who plan to work in Sochi, will be given an opportunity to take short courses in sports-related terminology. “This experience will certainly be useful to them in work at future international sports competitions that will be held in Russia,” she said.
